Cedar Point - physics rocks

Our Brennan Physics Club organized an amazing embrace of physics, math and engineering at Cedar point.

49 Brennan Cards enjoyed Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Cedar Point with amazing weather, sunshine, short lines, and great times. Perhaps there were a few moments when contemplating one's fate as the ride soared to 120 mph, or dropped 90-98 degrees "downward" - that we all pondered our sanity.

A special thank you to Mr. Luigi Baggio and Ms. Karen Hare for chaperoning; and to Keana Aquino for helping to chaperone as a U of W student studying to be a teacher.

Such ideal weather and lines... one might muse "it was luck", but no... "it was Physics".

Cedar point had a number of booths about Physics - from diverse contributors such as NASA and various universities.

All in all, a great day for Science, Math and Fun.

Grade 11 Physics Students enjoy a glimpse of Engineering

The University of Windsor Engineering department 

once again presented engineering to the physics students who then enjoyed the building of wind turbines in a fun challenge.

With team names such as 

"Wing-man", "Fanos", "Airvengers", "The turbinators" and "Dream Team" 

these physics students enjoyed showing a dogmatic persistence that has seldom been demonstrated; some insisting on 5+ tries to get their best energy generation. Competition and cooperation at its finest!

Physics Students take on the Engineering Design Challenge

On Tuesday, March 19, 2019 8 Physics students formed 2 teams at the University Of Windsor's 'Engineering Design Competition'.

Our two teams enjoyed a day of challenges and learning while representing Brennan with a fine example of learning, perseverance and great attitude.

Cedar Point - the Physics & Math days

Our Brennan Physics Club

Brennan Physics Club has organized a field trip to Cedar Point on Tuesday May 14, 2019 during Cedar Point's Physics & Math week.
In addition to enjoying the rides, participants will have the opportunity to discover the extensive role Physics, Science and Math play in our everyday lives, including at amusement parks, such as Cedar Point.
Brennan Seniors may sign up using this Google Form.
To help minimize the cost to students, all participants are encouraged to join us in fund raising. Those that do will benefit the most from our fundraising. You may use this form to sign up to sell chocolate bars. For each box of chocolate bars a student sells, their cost will decrease by $20 or more.
Additionally, students may order a Physics Crew-neck sweater for themselves, or others as a fund raiser. For each sweater sold by the participant, their cost for this field trip will decrease by $5-$10.

Dr. Rehse from U of W Physics

Dr. Rehse, professor and head of the Physics department visits our Grade 11 University Prep Physics students.

Highlights of Dr. Rehse's talk include:

If a student is planning on going into 'any science' engineering or related class (computers, math), then they should take Grade 11 and 12 Physics. In fact, they will have to take a physics in first year university (every University) and if they haven't been prepared in high school, they will struggle in university.

 In university professors don't care about your average (or marks) in high school (don't even look at them), they do expect your marks in university to be excellent. Hence, prepare for success while you are in high school.

 Physics is a way of thinking; problem solving and critical thinking are important skills that physics students learn to excel at.

 The University of Windsor has excellent offerings in Science (learning and research), and amazing "student to staff ratios". Additionally, the U of W is one of the few Universities that offers a degree in Medical Physics.

U of W Engineering visits Brennan Science

The Engineering department at the University of Windsor once again engaged our students with knowledge and hands on activities.
Today's activity was power generation through a wind turbine (renewable energy).
